ALUMNI RECEPTION:  We will honor the Brazilian GSE Team on Tuesday, 13 April, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at CANS Bar & Canteen, 1640 North Damen Avenue, Chicago. Hosted appetizers, cash bar. In addition, to the Inbound Brazil GSE Team we will have members of the Outbound Brazil Team and the Outbound South African (September 2010), in addition to many other former GSE members and Ambassadorial Scholars…Invitations will be e-mailed in mid-March or contact Jim Runnfeldt for further information, Jswede@aol.com.

 SOUTH AFRICA OUTBOUND GSE TEAM:  Applications and interviews for the GSE team going to South Africa September 3 to October 3, 2010 are due during February. Applications for team members must be in the hands of the District buy 17 February. For further information contact Alicia Mentell at mentella@waukeganparks.org.

AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS:  Applications are available for the acedemic year 2011-2012 for Ambassadorial Scholarships. Applications are due to the District 1 July, 2010 with interviews taking place in August. For further information go to the District web site www.rotary6440.org.  

  DISTRICT CONFERENCE:  The 2010 District Conference is scheduled for the weekend of Thursday, 29 April thru Sunday, 2 May, 2010. Highlights include a Sundowner Dinner Cruise on Thursday evening, Foundation Awards Luncheon at noon on Friday with an address by former scholar Steven Hollingworth, COO, CARE USA, Ambassadorial Scholar & Brazil GSE teams presentations of Friday afternoon, International Buffet, Youth Exchange Entertainment and address by Past RI President Wilf Wilkinson. Saturday will begin with Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a presentation by Susan Fignar entitled “Making a Memorable and Lasting First Impression,with a fashion show by Lauire Carver of CAbi clothiers. Our luncheon speaker on Saturday for the District Awards Luncheon is David Forward, renowned Leadership Trainer and Motivational Speaker and the author of A Century of Service: The Story of Rotary International. Saturday night will be the Great Gasby Black Tie Dinner (optional) and on Sunday we conclude with a Gospel Choir Brunch.…District Conference registration, agenda, etc. available at  www.rotary6440districtconference.com. 

BRAZIL OUTBOUND GSE TEAM SELECTIONS:   Donna Gulley, a retried High School Counselor and a member of the Rotary Club of Northbrook will lead a team made up of: Ronnie Idowu, a Computer Engineer, sponsored by the RC of Lake Forest/lake Bluff; Scott Nadeau, a Park District Geneva and Cindy Huang, an Attorney, sponsored by the RC of Skokie Valley. Ada Kahn of the RC of Evanston is the Alternate Team Leader. The team will be in Brazil from May 3 - June 1, 2010…..The Alumni Association will host a farewell party in Chicago in early April.

AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARS SELECTED:  Four individuals were recently selected from sixteen candidates to receive the 2010-2011 Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship Grants of $25,000.00 each. The recipients are Kim Karlin, sponsored by the Buffalo Grove club, who will be studying Second Language Acquisition;John Moore, sponsored by the Winnetka-Northfield club, who will study International Relations & Development Economics;  Melanie Quall sponsored by the Lake Forest - Lake Bluff club, who will study International Relations Public Policy & Development; and Irene Swanenburg, sponsored by Northbrook, who will study Public Health.

 NEW ZEALAND GSE FAREWELL:   There was great reception biding farewell to the D-6440 Outbound GSE team to New Zealand on Monday 13 April. The event was held at Buckley’s at Willow Glen Golf Course, Great Lakes. The families, friends and employers of the team members were present, as well as members of the sponsoring Rotary Clubs and other district dignitaries.

JOINT DISTRICT GSE RECEPTION:  Districts 6440 & 6450 hosted the GSE team from Norway, at a reception on Tuesday evening, 28 April 2009, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The event was  held at CANS Bar & Canteen, 1640 N. Damen Avenue, Chicago. There were 35 persons in attendance.

You will soon find information regarding alumni events, a data bank of past Ambassadorial Scholars and GSE Group Study Exchange Teams, plus many other useful tools to help you keep in touch with your Rotary experience.

ALUMNI ID CARDS: The association will be issuing D-6440 Alumni ID cards, which will identify you as a participant in a Foundation sponsored program and extend an invitation to you to visit a Rotary club in your area. In order to complete the ID we will need the following: name, program participated in, i.e. Ambassadorial Scholar, GSE, other, country and district visited. Please register, by going to the REGISTER BAR under META in the right column of this site, to provide us with this information.
